01 / PURPOSE
The problem it solves.
Provide a flexible foundation for running independent services and testing infrastructure changes without making every application share an operating system.
02 / THE FLOW
How the pieces connect.
- STEP 01Physical compute
- STEP 02Proxmox VE
- STEP 03Virtual machines
- STEP 04Application services
03 / WALKTHROUGH
From intention to operation.
- 01
Start with the workload
Define what the application needs: operating system, compute, memory, storage and dependencies.
- 02
Create an isolated environment
Use a virtual machine as the operating-system boundary. A VM is an environment; it is not automatically a production service.
- 03
Configure consistently
Apply a repeatable baseline and the monitoring appropriate to the guest. Keep application configuration separate from the hypervisor.
- 04
Plan the way back
Document what can be rebuilt and what needs a backup. A snapshot can help with a change, but does not prove recovery.
04 / DESIGN DECISIONS
The reasoning behind it.
Why virtual machines?
They make it possible to run different systems and separate their lifecycles. The trade-off is additional operating-system maintenance.
Why separate platform and application?
It makes dependencies clearer: a healthy hypervisor does not mean the service inside a guest is healthy.
05 / A CLOSER LOOK
A small, concrete example.
This illustrative example explains the structure. It is not an export of the lab configuration or a complete deployment recipe.
